K's will replay at Tonbridge Angels on Tuesday night following an entertaining 1-1 draw on Saturday in the FA Trophy Second Qualifying Round.
Tommy Whitnell's first-half goal for Angels had home fans fearing the worst, given Kingstonian's recent record in knockout football but a spirited second-half performance more than merited the equaliser.
Ryan Moss did superbly on the right, drove into the box and had the presence of mind to square to the on-rushing Joe Turner for a tap-in. With 35 minutes still to play, the game became an open affair, the rain easing off to encourage slick passing and enterprising wing-play.
In what could be the last Trophy game at Kingsmeadow, with K's set to leave at the end of the season, K's will count themselves unlucky not to have edged the tie. Youssuf Bamba was a constant threat on the right, Turner had a perfectly good goal disallowed in the first half and Moss also hit the bar.
While goalkeeper Rob Tolfrey did make two outstanding saves, Angels appear to be stuttering at the present time after an impressive opening six games of the season.
Tommy Williams' side, meanwhile, have a newfound balance now that Lee O'Leary is anchoring midfield. Aaron "Norman" Lamont picks up unusual positions behind the central striker while Turner's left-side marauding is beginning to bear fruit with goals and assists.
K's may well rue a second-half injury to Aaron Goode who had discovered his best form for a year at right-back. He hobbled off near the end with what looked like a knee problem.
Williams has, meanwhile, signed AFC Wimbledon striker Toyosi Olusanya on loan for a month., The 18-year-old scored on his Football League debut last season and is expected to add support to Moss's tireless efforts.
"He will offer us more options in wide and front areas," commented Williams. "He is very quick, direct and is a goal threat. We have a heavy schedule of fixtures coming up and it's important that we have the depth in the squad to cope with the workload. I would like to thank Neal Ardley and Neil Cox for allowing this loan deal to happen."
