It’s getting to that time of year where the weather begins to have an impact, and that certainly rang true on Saturday with no less than 10 games involving Combined Counties sides being postponed
Bedfont Sports advanced through to the 3rd round of the FA Vase for the first time in their history with a 2-0 win over Haywards Heath of the Southern Combination, despite their visitors controlling possession for the majority of the game. The win was made sweeter by the fact that Sports were missing several players for the tie. There was disappointment for Camberley who were hammered 4-0 at home to an impressive Southall side. The game was goalless at half time but the Spartan South Midlands side deservedly ran away with it in the second 45. Southall will face Knaphill in the next round after the Redding Way outfit defeated Highworth 3-1 away from home. Sutton Common Rovers side join them in the 3rd round as well as Abbey Rangers, whilst Hartley Wintney and Walton & Hersham must both try again on Tuesday after their games were postponed.
The big talking point in league action was Hanworth Villa’s crushing 5-0 win away to Windsor. It’s been a disappointing season The Royalists and it could have been even worse, with Villa hitting 14 shots on target in total. The points were shared in a relegation 6 pointer between Chertsey and Bedfont & Feltham in a 3-3 draw, whilst Raynes Park Vale were defeated 3-1 at home to Westfield. Horley Town are now 5 league games undefeated after a 4-1 win against North Greenford. There were worries over Liam Cox who appeared to pick up a serious injury but hospital checks showed it wasn’t as bad as feared.
There were 4 games played in Division One, with Worcester Park’s 9-0 win away to Farleigh Rovers catching the eye. Despite this win Worcester Park remain 13th in the league, though their goal difference has risen to +14, a whole 25 better than 4th place Sheerwater! They lost 5-1 away to Redhill on Saturday. Redhill have hit a rich vein of form recently and are starting to climb the league, hitting 9th place at the weekend. Epsom Athletic were defeated again, their fifth defeat in a row, with Frimley Green their conquerors. Staines Lammas defeated Dorking 3-1 to round off the weekend’s action
