What an absolutely glorious day that was, there’s nothing better than a last gasp winner and when it comes to put your side into the FA Cup 3rd round with all the famous names of the Premier League it’s absolute perfection.
As many have mentioned already, being part of the scenes on the terraces when the winning goal went in and seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces afterwards is something that will stay with you for a long time.
Indeed some were even in tears – no names mentioned!
Whilst it may somehow feel slightly disappointing if we don’t draw a top Premier League side on Monday night just by playing in the 3rd round you’re guaranteed an excellent crowd, widespread media coverage, and a great atmosphere whoever the opponent.
Personally I’d be delighted with something like Manchester United or Arsenal at home but I’m prepared for the disappointment of Barrow away!
There’s plenty of football to be played before that next round game though and the side must remain focussed amidst likely heavy media attention should we draw a top side.
Tuesday night will see a youthful side head down to Raynes Park Vale in the Surrey Senior Cup before another home game on Saturday – against Bath City in the FA Trophy.
City were beaten by struggling Welling in the National League South on Saturday, with captain Dan Ball going off injured early on.
The FA Trophy represents a very realistic chance for the U’s to get to Wembley this season as well as making a bit in prize money, so this Saturday will no doubt be seen as a very important game
