The Terrors’ winning run finally came to an end this evening as they were beaten by Greenwich Borough in a game in which they probably deserved to come away with a point. However it wasn’t to be and Tooting, despite battling hard throughout the game, fell to a cruel last minute winner struck by Greenwich’s Rob Denness.

Tooting started the stronger of the two sides, however the first opportunity of the game didn’t arrive until the 17th minute and it went the way of the hosts as a shot across the Terrors’ penalty area struck a post before running to safety. It was Tooting though who took the lead just 4 minutes later. Having won a corner out on the left it was swung in right footed by Jordan Wilson towards the edge of the 6 yard box. Skipper Sol Patterson-Bohner timed his leap to perfection, rising above his marker to send a bullet like header into the back of the Borough net. Tooting continued to be the dominant force in the half but were unable to convert that superiority into goals. In the final minute of the period, a rare advance on the Tooting goal saw Greenwich win a corner on their left. The ball was swung in and met with an excellent header at the near post from Liam MacDevitt to bring the scores level.

Greenwich were a different proposition in the second half and playing with the considerable slope of the pitch now in their favour, began to take the game to Tooting. There was a big let off for Tooting in the 56th minute when following a Greenwich corner out on their right, the ball dropped to the feet of one of their strikers, on the edge of the 6 yard box, who swung hurriedly and carelessly at it, sending the ball some considerable height over the crossbar. Tooting were not so fortunate 14 minutes later though when a ball bounced up in the penalty area and hit the hand/arm of Quincy Rowe. The referee on this occasion had no hesitation in pointing to the spot from where Rob Denness made no mistake and sent the home side into the lead.

This seemed to spur the Terrors on though and in a game where control ebbed and flowed it was now their turn to take the game to their hosts. And 9 minutes later, in the 79th minute, it paid dividends when Jordan Wilson drove purposefully into the box from the right hand side, pulled the ball back from the bye line, where it was met by Mike Dixon who turned it in from two yards out to bring the Terrors right back into the game.

During the final 10 minutes of the game, Tooting continued to come forward as Greenwich were defending like a side who appeared happy to settle for the point. However in the final minute of the game, there was a break from Greenwich and Rob Denness was given room to turn on the edge of the box from where he struck a great low drive into the bottom left hand corner of Matte Pierson’s goal to seal all three points for the home side.
