Sutton return to National League action this Saturday as they welcome Wrexham to Gander Green Lane.

This will be only the third meeting between the two clubs. Four seasons ago, Wrexham won 5-0 at Sutton in the third round of the FA Trophy (which they went on to win). And earlier this season Sutton were rather unlucky to lose 1-0 at Wrexham’s Racecourse Ground in their first ever league encounter.

Formed in 1864 and the oldest football club in Wales, Wrexham were members of the Football League from 1921 until their relegation to the Conference in 2008. Since then the closest they have come to a return to the Football League was defeat to Newport County in the 2013 play-off final. The two previous years they lost in the play-off semi-finals.

Both clubs currently have 29 points, Sutton in 14th being one place above Wrexham thanks to a better goal difference. Each club has only won one of its last eight league games. In last Saturday's FA Trophy games Wrexham lost 1-0 at home to Tranmere Rovers while Sutton were beating Bath City by the same score.

Sutton will be without suspended centre back Dean Beckwith, and full back Dan Spence is unlikely to be available after going off with a hamstring injury during the Bath game. Simon Downer and Ben Jefford are expected to fill in.
