A Sutton United Front: What's The Story Deacon Roarie?

Having seen points dropped after strong performances so many times earlier in the season it’s somewhat satisfying seeing wins picked up despite the performance not being as good as it could have been.

Indeed Wrexham were one of the sides Sutton will feel they ought to have beaten back in September.

Whilst manager Paul Doswell admitted his side were not at their best at the weekend they were always in control and well worth the 3 points.

An early goal is always a bonus, giving you a platform, and it was a platform defended excellently by Jamie Collins and Simon Downer, who must surely be making Dean Beckwith nervous about getting back into the side after suspension.

The competition for places is very healthy at the moment, and with rumours of a new signing imminent this competition looks set to be boosted further.

If I had to pick out a weak area at the moment I would say it is in chance creation, with Matt Tubbs needing a greater supply of chances to reach his prolific potential.

Roarie Deacon is a touch of class and is doing an excellent job, but U’s can’t always rely solely on him especially with rumours of League 1 clubs sniffing around and the January transfer window opening soon.

Having already lost Bolarinwa, Stearn, and Wishart this season it’s easy to be pessimistic over our chances of holding on to the hero of the Cheltenham game, but having been given the chance to shine at Gander Green Lane, and with the huge Wimbledon game upcoming, perhaps Roarie might fancy staying to the end of the season (or indeed longer).

Whatever happens with United’s key man, Doswell will have a plan to ensure things stay well on track.
