Bromley snatched all 3 points at Hayes Lane on Monday with a well-struck winner from Louis Dennis deep into added time, sending the home fans and players wild.

The previous 94 minutes had passed largely without major incident, the occasional chance falling here or there but nothing to indicate either side was going to snatch a winner. The best chance of the first half fell to Sutton’s Matt Tubbs, but he sliced his volley wide when the ball fell to him just inside a crowded penalty area. Bromley carried little threat until a much livelier end to the half, George Porter looping a header onto the roof of the net.

Bromley started the second half how they ended the first, with Cunnington going close with a header that rather trickled wide of the far post. Despite this early opportunity the game fell back into a poor quality affair with few chances. The best of the few fell to Tubbs, who got his effort on target but saw Alan Julian parry the ball away to relative safety, helped away by a home defender before Eastmond could get to the rebound. Up the other end Bradley Goldberg had a good opportunity late on after beating Jamie Collins in a wide position, but got his attempted lob all wrong and the ball went out closer to the corner flag than the goal. Bromley were to have the last laugh though when a corner was only half cleared to the edge of the box. Deacon could only help the ball to Louis Dennis, whose effort beat Worner via a slight deflection

Manager Paul Doswell gave his thoughts to SUFCtv after the game

“90% of football is not great, the 10% is the lovely bit and today we’ve been caught by the 90%”

“I thought the work rate and application were there for us today, we felt away from home we wanted to get a bit more resilient which we had today”

“I certainly thought the lads were competitive and to get caught in the last 10 seconds with a deflected shot was a sickener”

“We felt we had the 2 best chances – Ross Worner hasn’t had a save to make all game so defensively I think we did well”
