A Sutton United Front: A Week And A Half For The U's

Well it’s been quite the week for Sutton, that win over AFC Wimbledon surely going down as one of the greatest moments in the club’s history.

It was a fantastic effort from the lads to come from behind against League One opposition, with the fact that it was local rivals who were defeated making it all the more sweet.

For a part-time side to reach to the last 32 of the FA Cup is some achievement, and the game against Leeds next Sunday is sure to be another great occasion.

All the pressure is on the visitors but they are by no means guaranteed a victory – I for one think that our boys will push them all the way.

With all the distractions of the cup however it’s important to make sure league form doesn’t slip away and leave the side in something of a relegation battle.

The performance against Eastleigh at the weekend was decent, neither a particularly good nor bad result, though an almost bizarre set of results elsewhere means the U’s safety margin was cut to eight points.

It will be interesting to follow the other results in the league this weekend with Sutton not in league action again until Tuesday 7th January when they make the long trip up to Tranmere.

Of course there’s an FA Trophy replay against Worthing on Tuesday night to attend to, with the Sussex based side sure to have taken confidence from United’s result against AFC Wimbledon – showing the two division gap can be breached.

The focus will need to be there on Tuesday to keep alive Wembley dreams in the Trophy.
