Sutton Head West In National League Action

With their historic FA Cup run now behind them, Sutton United have the small matter of sixteen National League games still to play, starting with this Saturday's trip to Torquay United.

The Devon side are in their second spell at this level, having played in the Conference Premier from 2007 to 2009 before returning to the Football League via the play-offs, then being relegated again in 2014.

Last August, in one of their best attacking performances of the season, Sutton beat Torquay 2-0 at Gander Green Lane thanks to an early goal from Maxime Biamou and a Nicky Bailey penalty, the latter awarded for a foul by Ben Gerring that saw the visiting defender shown a second yellow card and so sent off.

Sutton currently stand 17th in the table, one place and one point above Torquay who have played three games more. The Gulls have won only one of their last eight games, but last Saturday earned a creditable point by drawing 0-0 draw at Barrow. Sutton meanwhile have managed only two goals in their last six matches, both of those penalties.

Sutton manager Paul Doswell does at least have no major injury worries or suspended players now and so can take a strong squad to Torquay. That squad is expected to include at least one new signing.
