A Sutton United Front: An Excellent Week

Personally I’m very happy with a point at Barrow, and 7 from the last 3 games is excellent form.

It’s taken us away from a position very close to the drop zone to looking ahead to a top half finish, with just another 7 points needed to hit the magical 50 point mark.

There’s something of a fixture glut coming up in the next few weeks – a game every Tuesday for 4 consecutive weeks starting after the York game – which will be an opportunity for everyone in the squad to prove their worth.

The likes of Baboye Traore and Louis John, who have found themselves mostly on the bench this season, will surely be called upon at some point to cover for inevitable injuries and suspensions, and even fatigue.

One of Doswell’s major achievements every season is building a squad where any of those peripheral players can come in seamlessly and do a good job, so I don’t think the fixture congestion will pose too much of an issue, barring freak circumstances such as the selection issues for the Boreham Wood FA Trophy game.

York on Saturday will be tough with the side only just relegated from League 2 battling for survival at the foot of the National League.

Several of the bottom sides play each other this weekend, Southport vs Torquay perhaps the crunch game, and the Minstermen will know the pressure is on them to pick up results with time running out.

At home United should be confident, and any lingering relegation nerves could be firmly ended with 3 points on Saturday.
