Tooting extended their record breaking winning run to 11 games today as they overcame a battling first half performance from Chipstead in a game that will also be remembered for the farewell afforded to former Terror Vernon Francis playing his final game today having announced earlier in the week that we would be hanging up his boots for good at the end of the match.
After a feisty opening quarter to the game Tooting took the lead on 26 minutes when a headed clearance found Dan Clements just inside the penalty area. He quickly took the ball down and fired the ball straight past Luke Colquhoun in the Chipstead goal. Soon afterwards there was an opportunity for the Terrors to double their lead when Mike Dixon broke clear down the left however his left footed effort went just wide of the far post.
Tooting were out of the blocks quickly for the second half and gradually began to overrun the Chipstead defence with wave after wave of attack. The second goal for Tooting came on 57 minutes. Again, Dan Clements was the man to do the damage, breaking clear down the right hand side, running towards, goal, and flicking the ball past the advancing Luke Colquhoun on the edge of the area before striking the ball clinically into the back of the empty net. Nine minutes later, the game was all but over, when Mike Dixon broke down the left, and homing in on goal, beat his defender and struck a shot left footed shot past Colquhoun from a tight angle to put the Terrors three up. There was a consolation goal for Chipstead two minutes from time when former Tooting favourite, Jason Henry beat Kyle Merson from just inside the box.
