A Sutton United Front: Late Pain At The Lane

There’s no point pretending otherwise – the draw on Saturday felt like a defeat with the two late goals conceded.

I for one thought it was game over when that freak own goal found the back of net, but a cheap goal from a corner and a screamer of a freekick gave York an unlikely point.

As disappointing as it is a point isn’t actually a terrible outcome, and there’s a chance to put things right on Tuesday night against Forest Green.

The well-funded Gloucestershire side saw their title hopes take a blow on Saturday when a late Dagenham winner sent them home pointless and pressure will be on them, particularly manager Mark Cooper, to revive those hopes.

Of course United have already defeated Forest Green at home this season, a late Deacon goal starting off the incredible FA Cup run that finished in the 5th round.

Generally Sutton have looked good against the top sides this season, and I don’t think there will be much in the game on Tuesday.

Aldershot at the weekend looks another tough test with the playoff chasing side having the joint best home record in the division.

The win at Torquay and draw at Barrow will have filled the U’s with confidence away from home however, and I’m confident of getting a result there as well.

Indeed there’s no game between now and the end of the season that looks impossible, and the target of finishing in the top half of the table still looks very much achievable.
