A Sutton United Front: Lacklustre Performance Cause Of Frustration For U's

I think Saturday was a wakeup call more than anything else – safety is not secured until you’re mathematically there and the performance at Woking, for large parts of the game and particularly the first half, was a lacklustre display you’d expect of a mid-table side on the final day.
I still would have thought one more win would be enough to keep us up, though a result at Tranmere on Tuesday night would make things a lot more comfortable.
The frustration is that realistically a point would have been a huge step towards safety, but it wasn’t to be and bouncing back now has to be the target.
Tranmere is a low pressure game – the title chasing side ought to be expecting all 3 points – but as we showed against Lincoln it’s far from a given.
Even a draw would be a quite frankly excellent result that would be a huge confidence boost ahead of the Southport game on Saturday.
Defeat at home to Guiseley has put the Sandgrounders in deep trouble, and the U’s should be looking for all 3 points in that one to secure a place in the National League for good next season.
We shouldn’t be going down with the side we have, but it’s important to relax any nerves as soon as possible – and one more win should be enough to do just that.
The target now should simply be to be in the position to play as many games of the remaining 6 as possible with as little pressure as possible, something that can only be achieved by picking up good results ahead of the final slog.
