Sutton Look For Safety Points

After Tuesday’s controversial 3-2 defeat at Tranmere Rovers, Sutton United probably still need three more points to be confident of staying in the National League for next season.
They appear to have the best opportunity to secure those points this Saturday when they are at home to Southport, the division’s basement club.
The Sandgrounders have lost eleven of their last thirteen league matches, their only points in that run coming from a goalless draw at Woking and a 1-0 home win against Boreham Wood. They have conceded 87 goals in 41 matches, giving them the worst defensive record in the division.
However, Sutton are in indifferent form themselves after just one victory and four draws in their last nine games. They stand 15th in the table, six points clear of Torquay United in the highest relegation place, with five games left to play.
When Sutton travelled to Southport in October the match finished 1-1, Andrai Jones giving the home side the lead then Sutton equalising through a penalty from Jamie Collins shortly after Nicky Bailey had seen his own spot kick saved.
Sutton’s strike force has been bolstered by the return of Pape Gueye and Tommy Wright from loan spells, and both did well after coming on as substitutes at Tranmere, Gueye being credited with Sutton’s second goal, although he later appeared to pick up a hamstring injury. Doswell will hope to get some of his injured players back for Saturday as Bailey, defenders Dean Beckwith, Simon Downer and Kevin Amankwaah, and forward Adam Coombes all missed the Tranmere trip.
