With the ultimate prize getting ever closer, Tooting made hard work of overcoming relegated Three Bridges this afternoon as their visitors outworked them during the opening 45 minutes.

They upped the performance level though in the second half and the introduction of the energetic duo of Ollie Bennett and Sandy Cunningham for the final 20 minutes seemed to provide the energy boost needed on a hot day, to see them home and finally seal the points.

Goal scoring opportunities were few and far between in the first half as the Terrors struggled to match the high work rate of their opponents who appeared that much quicker to snap up the loose balls in the middle in what was a rather scrappy first half, played in conditions that felt more like August than April. The only action of any note in the opening period came on 24 minutes when Three Bridges broke forward and free of the Terrors defence however Kyle Merson came out and stood up well to prevent the visitors going one up.

The Terrors came out for the second half with more fire about them as they set about trying to break down the Three Bridges back line. It wasn’t really until the introduction of Sandy Cunningham and Ollie Bennett though, along with Ashley Robinson releasing Jordan Wilson into midfield, that the chances began to come. The breakthrough finally came for the Terrors in the 84th minute. In a well worked move, started in his own half by skipper Sol Patterson-Bohner, he played the ball out wide to Peter Wedgeworth, who was pushing forward on the right. He in turn played the ball into Jordan Wilson who turned and burst through two defenders with the ball before taking it down to the bye line and pulling it back, across goal where it was met by Mike Dixon just inside the 6 yard box who then kept his composure and slid the ball home to put the Terrors ahead, whilst receiving close attention from his marker.
