An efficient performance from Sutton saw them pick up a solid win at home to a Gateshead side whose playoff ambitions are now surely over.
The early exchanges were tight with few clear chances, Biamou with the best of them though the presence of a few defenders at the near post was enough to put him off his flicked attempt at goal. Up the other end a mistake from Puddy allowed a cross to run through to Mitch Brundle but under pressure he couldn’t find the finish from just 6 yards out that would have put his side in front. Jack Jebb, starting for the U’s today, gave the ball away 30 yards from goal midway through the second half giving Paddy McLaughlin an opportunity, but his effort was always rising. With minutes left until the break Biamou beat goalkeeper Dan Hanford to a through ball, drawing the foul and winning the penalty. Any homework on penalty takers Gateshead might have done was rendered pointless as Roarie Deacon stepped up to the spot for the first time this season, the key man making no mistake to put United 1-0 up.
From the position Sutton were always in control, and apart from an early penalty appeal against Nicky Bailey for handball the away side never really troubled the U’s. Biamou came close early on in the second period, firing just over under pressure, but on the hour he reacted first after his first effort was blocked to volley home and double the lead. This settled any nerves and it was one way traffic as Cadogan saw Hanford make a great save from his close range volley, before Collins saw a header correctly disallowed for climbing on the Gateshead defender. There was to be icing on the cake however, as Craig Dundas sprung the offside trap and squared for Biamou to get his second with a tap in.
