With nothing really at stake for either side a 0-0 draw was perhaps an unsurprising result at Macclesfield, but the game was not as dull as the scoreline suggested.

The home side starting the brighter of the two sides, winning a lot in midfield and threatening through an early flurry of set pieces, but Will Puddy was not tested United were soon able to settle down and start to create attacks of their own. Cadogan had the best chance, his effort saved by Flinders in the Macclesfield goal with Dundas just unable to reach the rebound. Coombes saw an acrobatic volley saved after a long throw in was flicked on, before Eastmond saw a decent opportunity but put his effort from the edge of the box just wide after good work by Adam May had set him up.

The introduction of Jack Jebb in the second half livened up the game and within minutes of coming on he came within inches of scoring, putting an effort just wide of the post from inside the penalty area, Flinders beaten. Macclesfield responded with James Thorne going similarly close, his long range effort hitting the top of the crossbar and bouncing over to safety. A few more long range efforts followed with Puddy called into action, albeit with more than comfortable saves, before Craig Dundas nearly signed off his 450th Sutton game with a goal, the goalkeeper denying him however. There was one last chance for a Sutton winner as the game opened up in the latter stages, a 35 yard volley from Jack Jebb dipping to beat the keeper but not quite coming down enough, landing on the roof of the net
