A Sutton United Front: Bring On Orient Challenge

So pre-season is over, and we have just a week to wait until the real thing begins when Leyton Orient and the BT Sport cameras come to town for a 12.30 kickoff on Saturday.

They say you can’t take much from performances in pre-season, but I’ve been relatively enthused by what I’ve seen so far.

Performances against Havant and Dartford showed the class of our side, whilst the 3-2 win over a Norwich XI highlighted the strength in depth we’re blessed with this year.

In recent years the record on the opening day of the season is poor, to say the least.

In fact, since my first full year supporting Sutton in the 2011-12 season we have lost every single opening day fixture.

This is a bizarre record that is sure to change soon, though Leyton Orient will be a tough side to try and break it against.

The East London club won 2-1 at big spending Billericay Town on Saturday, and will face Arsenal U23 on Tuesday night in their final pre-season game.

The pressure will be on Orient on Saturday, the bookies backing them to challenge for an immediate return to the Football League, but Paul Doswell’s men are never shy to cause an upset, with wins recorded against all of the National League’s top 5 last season – and of course several famous wins in the FA Cup.

The presence of the BT Sport cameras will add further excitement to the occasion, the world watching on as Sutton look to take 3 points against their famous opponents.
