Classy Palace Side Too Strong For Terrors

For the opening third of this evening’s encounter with Crystal Palace, Tooting more than held their own, however in the end, the superior skill and pace of the visitors, who included some senior players in tonight's side, got the better of things as they went on to record an emphatic victory.
In the opening encounters Tooting had plenty of possession and frequently looked to threaten Palace down both flanks through Dan Clements and Claudio Hoban. However whilst the two wingers gave the Palace defence plenty to think about they were never able to deliver the final telling cross that would create a clear cut chance on goal. At the other end, for most of the first half, the centre back pairing of Sol Patterson-Bohner and Callum McNaughton appeared untroubled and able to mop up most of what Palace had to offer. The break for Palace though came in 34th minute when Nye Kirby cut in on the Terrors’ left, beating his defender and shot home from a tight angle
Having made a number of changes at the interval Palace were the quicker of the two teams out of the blocks for the second half. A three goal blitz in the space of just 8 minutes effectively put the game beyond Tooting with strikes from Johnny Williams (50 mins), Tyler Brown 54 mins) and Freddie Ladapo (58 mins). The goal of the game though came on 71 minutes when Jordan Mutch rifled home a swinging half volley from all of 30 yards which flew into the top corner of the net. Despite this, Tooting never gave up and continued to battle and look for ways forward when they could however with the Palace midfield always that little bit quicker to the ball opportunities remained few and far between. The final goal of the game came in the 85th minute when Andre Coker notched their sixth from close range.
