Tooting cruised to a comfortable victory in their final pre-season friendly as they brushed aside Bostik League South side East Grinstead Town with good passing football but were not afraid to use a more direct approach when the opportunities presented themselves.

Tooting took the lead on 16 minutes when Jake Baxter scored from close range at the far post after Billy Dunn at broken into the hosts’ penalty area down the left. There was slight concern for the Terrors on 27 minutes when Chace O'Neill signalled to the bench that he had felt a slight pull in his hamstring and with no chances being taken he was replaced by 18 year old Dominic Morgan-Griffiths. Six minutes after entering the game, the youngster was on the score sheet when Peter Wedgeworth spotted him making a burst through the centre of midfield. He sent a long high, teasing ball towards the edge of the penalty area and with none of the East Grinstead defence able to match the pace of the Tooting youngster he was left with the far from easy task, about 20 yards out from goal, of rising ahead of the 6ft plus ‘keeper and neatly guiding the ball with his head, back to goal, over the top of him and into the empty net.

The only other opportunity of the half came on 41 minutes after Tooting won possession of the ball in the middle of the park; Ollie Bennett played Billy Dunn in through the centre however his shot from 12 yards out was well saved by the ‘keeper.

Whilst Tooting continued to dominate possession in the second half it took them until the 75th minute to increase the score. It came when a corner out on the right swung in by Peter Wedgeworth was met on the edge of the 6 yard box by the head of Sandy Cunningham who rose above his marker.

Unfortunately there was a clash of heads which sensibly saw both players leave the field to be replaced. Five minutes later in almost a repeat move it was 4-0, the only difference being that this time it was Sol Patterson-Bohner who met the ball with a first time side footed volley. The scoring spree was far from over though and on 83 minutes later it was Danny Bassett who had come on to replace Sandy Cunningham, who got in on the act when he slotted home from 12 yards out after being played in by Billy Dunn. And less than two minutes later Danny Bassett doubled his personal tally and made it six for the Terrors as he broke through the East Grinstead defence from just inside his own half and struck the back of the net again with another effort from 12 yards out.
