A Sutton United Front: Top Of The League

The season just keeps on better and the late drama keeps on coming, Kieron Cadogan’s effort against Chester coming well into stoppage time.

There was an added boost to the celebrations given the injustice earlier on when Nicky Bailey’s freekick was bizarrely ruled offside after a long conversation between referee and linesman – and indeed the Chester number 6.

Despite the follow-up disappointment of the Chester equaliser U’s never stopped and that fighting spirit showed right at the death when a lovely team move put Cadogan in, and he kept calm to delicately chip the goalkeeper.

The result means that after 5 games United are top with 12 points.

This is a great sight to see, a testament to how far the club has come in the last few years, and with Bromley sitting in second perhaps this indicates the future is bright for 3G.

The EFL must surely be feeling the pressure now, and should the strong performances from the sides with the artificial pitches continue it may help the competition be dragged into the 21st century.

Indeed U’s face Bromley next Monday, and have another fixture at home to a 3G using side before then when Maidstone visit the lane.

Both will surely see crowds pushing on 3000, with excitement growing around the town.

There’s no doubt it’s a great time to be part of Sutton United Football Club, with performances on the pitch excellent and growth off the pitch rapid.

Long may it continue.
