A Sutton United Front: A Game Of Two Halves

Saturday was a real ‘game of two halves’ with U’s performing reasonably well in the first half before pretty much failing to turn up in the second.

Visitors Maidstone had rarely threatened in the first 45 but tore Sutton apart after the break and fully deserved their 3-1 in the end.

Looking at the bigger picture it’s still been a very impressive start to the season but that doesn’t mean it isn’t frustrating to see 3 points thrown away at home to a side we should be beating.

Maidstone do deserve some credit though – they came out the traps rapidly in the second half and set out to dominate.

Though the first goal was poor from a defensive point of view it had been coming and it was no surprise to see them go on to get the winner as well.

I do feel it’s just a small blip, and there’s a big opportunity to put things right on Monday with the visit to local rivals Bromley.

Bromley too will be looking for a reaction having been hammered 5-1 at Dagenham on Saturday.

There will be no excuses from either side on a familiar 3G surface and both clubs will be looking to push to the summit at the end of the month, especially following the 3G pitch statement issued on Saturday.

Whilst one of the three 3G using sides getting promoted is a long shot it’s definitely worth looking to put the pressure on the EFL – football is a funny old game and who knows what might happen come April?
