A Sutton United Front: A Good Point - But A Frustrating One

All things considered, a point at home to Gateshead with the current injury crisis is a decent result, though there will undoubtedly be a tinge of disappointment coming from the missed chances to win the game late on.

After the last couple of home defeats there was certainly concern around the ground when the visitors took an early lead from the penalty spot.

This fired Sutton up rather than putting them down however and the equaliser, when it came, was deserved.

In truth the second half was so one-sided it was almost ridiculous, especially in the dying stages, but a combination of poor finishing and good goalkeeping prevent U’s from taking all 3 points.

The save late on to deny Craig Eastmond was unreal, and Hanford deserves a lot of credit for that.

As Paul Doswell said in his post-match interview the players should be proud of their performance too – with so many injuries it was never going to be easy going especially going behind early on.

Dagenham away is a very tough fixture for any side at this level , but as proven at Tranmere this season and Lincoln last season there’s nobody that will faze U’s.

The Daggers were defeated 1-0 at Hartlepool on Saturday, being knocked off top spot by Dover who won at Aldershot.

With only a point between the top five it is entirely possible the winner on Tuesday night could go top of the table, so there will be no lack of incentive for Paul Doswell’s men
