Terrors Frustrated By Needham Market

Tooting will be the more disappointed of the two teams to have come away from today’s game with just a point having dominated the final 35 minutes of the opening period after conceding early on.

The Terrors once again paid the price for poor marking from a set piece as Sam Nunn headed the visitors in front from a corner in just the second minute of the game. However after taking a further five minutes or so to settle into their stride, Tooting then began to play with confidence, moving the ball forward with quick and accurate short passing; Chace O’Neill and Billy Dunn linking up well through the middle, Juevan Spencer and Danny Bassett doing similar down the right flank and Tenny Adebowale and Dan Clements creating the danger down the left while Eddie Dines battled just in front of the back four snuffing out any danger when Market did break forward. Despite the long period of Tooting dominance and numerous half chances created during 35 minutes in which most of the game was played in or around the visitors’ penalty box, it was not until the final minute of the half that they drew level. It came when Billy Dunn took one of a numerous number of corner kicks out on Tooting’s left. He floated the ball in towards the edge of the six yard box where it was met by the head of Eddie Dines who guided it past ‘keeper Danny Gay and into the back of the net.

Tooting started the second half strongly too however despite looking to press forward at every opportunity, weren’t allowed by their opponents to dominate quite as much as they had in the first half. The two best chances of the half, one for each side, came in the final five minutes. Firstly when Needham Market broke forward quickly down their right, Joe Tupper was very quick off his line to block a one on one effort and see the ball out to safety. Then in stoppage time, Jordan Wilson broke through into the right hand side of Needham’s penalty area. Seeing Mike Dixon up in support but surrounded by three defenders he chose to continue his run, and just missed the target shooting from a tight angle.
