After the last couple of home games it was a relief to get a result on Saturday, with the added bonus of going top of the league once more.
In truth the scoreline actually flattered Barrow – it really ought to have been more though the visitors’ keeper is a large reason it wasn’t.
The next couple of league fixtures carry a certain amount of intrigue, with both Wrexham and Dover only one point below U’s in the league.
It’s been a crazy season so far, with only one point between the top six teams and most of the pre-season title favourites languishing in the bottom half.
It’s still early doors yet, but could there be potential for a shock promotion winner?
Having this discussion is a nice place to be in; there’s absolutely no pressure on the team to go up whatsoever yet you feel we are probably good enough to have something of an outside chance.
Certainly speaking to some of the players they feel the same way.
I suppose with any hint of even making the playoffs naturally follows the 3G pitch discussion too.
We’re very much talking hypothetically here, but if we were to win promotion this year it really is tough to work out what the course of action would be.
Personally I’d like to think the EFL would eventually allow artificial pitches in, so wouldn’t be keen on ripping up the pitch especially with the community benefits it brings.
Let’s hope our early season success can at least force the issue with the EFL’s decision makers
