A Sutton United Front: Bring On The Draw

There are no easy games in the FA Cup, as any Leeds United or AFC Wimbledon fan would tell you, so securing a place in the 1st round proper was a relief.

It is true the first half performance left a lot to be desired but I thought the levels in the second 45 were far superior to those of the first and the win was ultimately deserved.

Realistically it should have been more comfortable, with several chances to kill the game at 3-1 missed.

Nevertheless a win’s a win and I look forward to watching the draw for the next round on Monday night.

After the incredible run to the 5th round of last season I’d actually be happy with a ‘glamour tie’ at this stage – something like Portsmouth or Blackburn away would be perfect.

On the other hand whilst our home form hasn’t quite been at the level of last season so far, I still fancy us against anyone at Gander Green Lane.

Whatever the draw it’s just good to be there again.

Meanwhile, Saturday sees U’s return to league action with the long trip up to Hartlepool.

Pools have now won three in a row, including a narrow 2-1 win away to South Shields in the FA Cup on Saturday, and the promotion hopefuls will be looking to climb the table with two points keeping them out of a playoff spot currently.

If U's have serious ambitions of promotion come the end of May beating one of the pre-season title favourites would be a big statement
